with a prescription.

They must be properly ordered and fitted based upon the eye doctors exam. Getting an improper fit or prescription will make the contacts useless to you.

Contact lenses fit into two groups based upon the type of plastic they are made of: soft or ridged gas permeable (RGP or GP lenses).

Soft contacts contain a certain percentage of water that makes them comfortable to wear and easy to use.

RGP lenses are stiffer and more durable, but can take a period to get used to them. Within these two groups there are many varieties of lenses. There are

lenses called extended wear which can be worn through the night. Daily wear lenses are the easiest to use and allow for good oxygen flow to the eye. Disposable lenses are worn for a period of time then thrown away.

Almost all types of contact lenses are available with tint, UV protection and bifocals.

Always talk over your options with your eye doctor. He or she can help you best decide what type of contact lenses will work the best for you.
